By: Brenson Stivitch. Judge Andrew Napolitano was one of my favorite analysts on Fox News. But several months ago he was suspended for making comments about the “Russia” investigation that anyone who could read knew to be true, but angering the liberal Murdoch boys who had just taken over the operation of Fox News and who were in the midst of a conservative purge within the network. Since then, he has towed the network line. He did it again tonight.
He stated that the reason the Russia investigation has been so quiet is that Special Counsel Robert Mueller runs a tight ship and there are no leaks. Further, it indicates he is moving rapidly in front of the grand jury to bring indictments against those he is trying to turn state’s witnesses against Trump. He said this is very bad for the President as Mueller pursues his case of collusion. Brush away the dust, tonight Napolitano sounded like a network lackey.
A careful analysis shows that just the opposite is happening. The supposition that there are no leaks is bogus. There are leaks all over the place. Those leaks indicate that Napolitano’s tightening noose doesn’t have much rope. We know that they raided Paul Manafort’s residence…and it has been leaked that it wasn’t particularly fruitful. There are leaks showing Mueller going after low-level Trump operatives on the most bogus of pretenses. There is a continued investigation of Jared Kushner’s meeting with the Russian lawyer bimbo. They keep looking, but there is no “there” there. Now they are going after General Flynn’s son who accompanied him to Russia. Both of those stories garnered headlines in news cycles drowning in 24/7 hurricane coverage. We also know that all the investigations have veered off the primary goal…and Mueller is looking at financial transactions from 10 years ago trying to prove something…anything. It is disgusting. Mueller looks like a fool.
But there are also tell-tale signs outside the investigation. The case against Debbie Wasserman Schultz is growing geometrically. Today we learned that her Pakistani IT guy harbored a secret server filled with all sorts of goodies. We know that his wife, also under indictment, has agreed to return to the United States to testify against her husband. We know that he had access to all the DNC secret “stuff” and that he could be bought for a price. Suddenly, leaks of DNC and DNC operative emails look a lot less like Trump/Russia and more and more like Wasserman Schultz’s Pakistani.
We know that the lead prosecutor in the investigation, a Clinton operative, quit his job with no explanation. I suspect he didn’t like what they were discovering.
In completely unreported stories, we know that Susan Rice has now admitted to unmasking Jared Kushner and Michael Flynn among others, lying once again to cover her behind. Samantha Powers is right behind.
We know that Trump’s lawyers have been extremely quiet.
We know the Democratic Party leadership has suddenly been much less critical and is cooperating with Trump.
We know that the investigations in Congress, while ongoing, are not “going” anywhere as the Justice Department, through Mueller, refuses to cooperate.
We also know that the Trump Justice Department is resisting appointing a second special prosecutor to investigate a whole list of crimes against high ranking Obama officials and Democratic operatives we know occurred…and were actual crimes. There is a reason that is not happening. Is it part of an overall deal to end all of this?
And here is the kicker. We know that although Mueller is investigating Russian collusion, there is no crime of collusion. Mueller would have to show an illegal act in the process of whatever collusion there may or may not have been. That is going to be tough to prove.
Add to that the continual build-up of James Comey’s indiscretions while FBI Director, the Russia investigation will end with a whimper…possibly by early next year. There may be some minor indictments for misdemeanor types of activities…mostly unrelated to Russian collusion. There will be some written dicta describing deplorable acts that probably weren’t. There will be no “crime.”
As Trump continues to build his stature…we are witnessing the end of a very expensive dog and pony show at the taxpayer’s expense. What a shame.
