Donald Trump’s interview with the New York Times yesterday is laying the groundwork for something. What it is…we don’t know. It reveals what could be called his Achilles Heel: total inexperience in power politics.
What started out initially as a pitiful excuse for Hillary Clinton losing the election in November orchestrated by the Clinton campaign, has turned into a major debacle for Trump…when it didn’t have to be. Notwithstanding leak after leak after leak…investigation after investigation after investigation…nothing has been found substantiating these totally made up accusations. Over and over again the ultimate claims were found to be factually wrong, or worse, attributable directly to the Obama administration or the Hillary Clinton herself. Now the investigation is going in a direction that has nothing to do with anything other than a bunch of Democratic operatives, under the supervision of Robert Mueller, going after Trump on unrelated activities from twenty years ago.
Trump’s comments about Jeff Sessions were spot on. Sessions had no business accepting the position of Attorney General knowing he would recuse himself from the most important political issue of Trump’s presidency. Sessions is no babe in the woods. He knew exactly how it would play out. Which leads me to the following query…what kind of a political party elects a president and immediately opens up congressional hearings to investigate him?
Barack Obama only had two Attorney General’s in his administration, both of whom were team players going the full distance on behalf of their President. Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch were political hacks and ran rough shod over the law with conflicts of interest coming out the wazoo. They used their position to turn the heads of the FBI, the CIA, and the NSA into political puppets…and extended their influence into the current administration through dirty tricks and unending leaks with carry-over operatives. All of this under the watchful eye of a compliant, sycophant press.
Trump’s Achilles Heel is not understanding how to use the office of the Presidency not only for policy, but political will and enforcement. He is learning a very hard lesson with overt and aggressive opposition not only from the slimy Progressive Democrats, but from the left wing in the Republican Party.
Barack Obama’s presidency is a model for all future Presidents as to how to wield the power of the Presidency to achieve not only policy goals, but political goals as well. He did it better than any other President in my lifetime. Unfortunately, that model is destructive to the country, to freedom, and the rule of law. But that is what the swamp in Washington demands. Play by Obama’s rules, or be chewed up and spit out.
