Tales from Canada and the United Kingdom. How Progressivism works in your life. Good evening everybody. Summer has finally found us with temps in the upper 80’s. Spent some time up around Lake Erie over the weekend. Great walking and even better food!!! There is no place better in the entire world than Northeast Ohio!!!
The absurdity of Progressivism has been on full display this past week. Baby Charlie Gard is being held hostage by the British National Health System. Baby Charlie is in bad shape with a rare genetic disease. The doctors want to turn off the machines. The parents, on the other hand, found that experimental treatments in the United States could possibly help Baby Charlie. They have raised the money to transport Baby Charlie to the United States. Columbia University Medical Center has agreed to provide the experimental treatment. Doctors estimate the chances of success at between 10 – 50%. But the European Courts have forbidden the parents from removing Baby Charlie from the hospital for the treatment. And it has now been in the British courts again for another couple of weeks with American doctors flying to Britain to testify. Such are the wages of Progressivism…where the state is the ultimate arbiter of life and death over your child.
In Canada…a Canadian court awarded terrorist Omar Khadr $8 million American (to be paid by the Canadian government) for alleged mistreatment while incarcerated in Guantanamo. Poor baby Omar claims he was subjected to sleep deprivation and it upset him. What didn’t upset him was that he killed Sergeant First Class Christopher Speer with a hand grenade and blinded Sergeant Layne Morris in the process. Ironically, it was an American medic that saved Terrorist Khadr’s life as he was also injured in the incident. To be clear…Khadr was a 15 year old Canadian citizen fighting against Canada and the United States in Afghanistan. He sued his own country…the one he was fighting against… because Canada failed to protect his interests against the big, bad Americans. What? Speer’s wife was awarded a $100 million judgement against Khadr, who is the son of a financier. But the Canadian government finessed the problem by immediately transferring the money Khadr to avoid attachment by the American courts. Prime Minister Trudeau said the situation is “difficult”…and Khadr offered an apology to Mrs. Speer. Sure makes me feel better. Such are the wages of Progressivism.
51% of American college students now think Socialism is better than Capitalism. I suggest a weekend in Cuba or Venezuela to see if that is true. Remind them to bring toilet paper and water.
The Republican Senate has redefined the term “weenie.” Can you spell “Primary?”
The media is crowing Trump’s approval numbers are down. Maybe…but methodologies of polls are in question. What they fail to tell you is no matter low Trump’s approval ratings are or are not…the approval ratings of the media and Congress is even lower. If the election were held again tomorrow…Trump still beats Hillary. Ouch!!!
God’s in his Heaven and all’s right with the world. We will have a good day if the Lord’s willing and creek don’t rise.
