America has been an exceptional nation for 241 years. We have operated under the same Constitution for 230 years. The genius of America lies in our belief that our rights come from our Creator…not a King. It was revolutionary concept back in the day.
Our Constitution is unique. We established a system of checks and balances that works…albeit slowly and sometime painfully. We have inspired other countries around the globe to try democracy. Sometimes successful, other times not so much. Notwithstanding, we are that shiny city on a hill for all to emulate…both our strengths and our flaws.
We have survived a bloody civil war…which like most of America…was complicated. But the result was the elimination of slavery, America’s original sin, under the guidance of our core beliefs that all men are created equal. It was wrong to perpetuate this evil institution, but our system worked to correct it.
We rescued the world from totalitarian domination not once, but three times: World War I/ World War II / and the defeat of the Soviet Union. We rebuilt Europe and Japan from the ashes. We circle the globe offering assistance, both monetary and technical, to whomever is need after a natural disaster. We are a generous nation.
America has opened its doors to the oppressed and the needy. We are a nation of immigrants who came here for a better life, for economic opportunity, for freedom. And those immigrants, working as individuals and in their individual communities, have made America strong and diverse.
America is a nation founded on rugged individualism. Our core belief is equal opportunity…not equal outcome. That core belief has built the most innovative, strongest and economically successful nation in the world; and in a very real sense, has raised the economic well-being of the world to the highest level in human history.
Shifting Right’s message to you is this. It is okay for Americans to be proud of their country. It is okay for Americans to brag about their country. It is okay for Americans to demand the well-being of their country be accommodated. The world is better place because America is here. We look to help the needy. We look to be inclusive. We look to be tolerant. But it is the base economic and military strength of our nation that allow us to do those things. It is our belief that the individual matters and has individual rights that is our nation’s lifeblood.
We, as a nation, must work together to fulfill our potential. But not at the cost of demeaning the nation, or our individuality, or succumbing to group-think at the altar of political correctness. Freedom is precious and must be protected. Utopian visions creep up on you from behind. They are appealing, but never live up to the promise. We must re-establish our nation’s sense of self…and no…that is NOT a bad thing. It is not a bad thing to be proud of our culture and our country…and stand tall as the nation that saved the world from itself on more than one occasion.
It takes individual effort, personal responsibility, self-motivation, hard work, pride, and freedom to allow America to continue its good work.
From all of us at Shifting Right…Happy Independence Day. God Bless America.
